West Bank High School of Religion (WBHSR)
Who participates in this program?
WBHSR is open to private and public high school students who are not currently receiving religious instruction and have the desire continue religious edcation and to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
This program begins at the 9th grade level through 12th grade and new students should register the summer before their 9th grade year.
In some cases, a student may have to continue in the WBHSR during their 12th grade year if they did not begin the program in the 9th grade. This is allowed as long as the student is still under 18 years of age.
Catholic high school students are welcomed and to join in this program.
What is the purpose of WBHSR?
This program is religious studies and bible mapping at the high school level. This
program is required for those who attend private or public school and desire to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the 11th grade at St Martha Parish.
I’m getting ready to start the 11th grade. Can I still register for WBHSR and be confirmed?
An 11th grader may register only if he or she can provide proof of attendance in a religious education program up to that point; however, please call director to find out the requirements. If you choose not to confirm during your junior or senior year, you will have to wait and be confirmed as an adult which will require a different set of classes. Please contact the office for instruction on this matter.
When and where do the classes meet?
St Martha is hosting WBHSR meetings for parish students & other parish students attending WBHSR. Our meeting is on one Saturday each month starting in September and ending in May (a brief mandatory parent/student meeting is held in August). A schedule of meeting dates are on above schedule.. We will use St Martha Parish Hall for meeting beginning at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 noon. A snack break is provided during the session.
Is this a Confirmation Preparation Program?
No. These religion classes are strongly suggested and required classes for St Martha Parish high school students in public/private school and are not receiving religious education who want to confirm in Junior year. There is a separate confirmation preparation program that is also required for public, private and catholic students to attend for the Sacrament of Confirmation Ceremony Mass.
Does WBHSR handle my service hours or retreats for Confirmation?
Each individual parish church program handles its own service hours, organizes retreats and plans the actual Sacrament of Confirmation ceremony. However there may be an opportunity to earn service hours in the St Martha Parish that will be discussed with students at the meeting.
Who should I call if I have any other questions?
